Koh Young to Showcase AI-Powered AOI and SPI Solutions at SMTA Juárez Expo 2026
Koh Young brings Smart AI inspection ecosystem — including KAP Auto Programming, Smart Review, KSMART analytics, and KPO process optimization — to Mexico's Ciudad Juárez electronics manufacturing hub on May 21.

Koh Young, a leading provider of 3D measurement-based inspection solutions for electronics manufacturing, will exhibit its Smart AI solution ecosystem at the SMTA Ciudad Juárez Expo & Tech Forum on May 21, 2026. The event takes place at the Injectronics Convention Center in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico — one of the largest electronics manufacturing hubs in the Americas.
The exhibition comes at a critical time for the Mexican electronics manufacturing sector, which is experiencing a significant influx of production as global companies diversify their manufacturing footprint beyond China.
AI-Powered Inspection Ecosystem
Koh Young will demonstrate four interconnected AI-powered tools designed to move electronics manufacturers from isolated inspection toward a connected, data-driven production model:
KAP Auto Programming
KAP uses AI to reduce the time and effort required to create inspection programs for new products. In traditional AOI and SPI workflows, programming a new board can take hours of manual effort — defining component boundaries, setting threshold parameters, and tuning inspection sensitivity. KAP automates much of this process, supporting faster product introduction (NPI) and more consistent inspection parameters across production lines.
For high-mix, low-volume manufacturers — increasingly common as product cycles shorten — automated programming directly impacts time-to-first-unit.
Smart Review
When an AOI system flags a potential defect, a human operator typically reviews the image and makes a pass/fail decision. Smart Review uses AI to improve the consistency and speed of this review process, reducing the time spent on false calls (defects flagged by the machine that are actually acceptable) and allowing engineering teams to focus on genuine process issues.
False call rates are one of the biggest operational challenges in automated inspection. Industry surveys consistently show that 20–40% of AOI calls are false in many production environments. Reducing this burden has a direct impact on line throughput and operator fatigue.
KSMART Analytics Platform
KSMART connects inspection data across the entire SMT production line — solder paste inspection (SPI), pre-reflow AOI, and post-reflow AOI — to provide unified visibility into trends, recurring defects, and production performance metrics. This cross-process data correlation enables:
- Early detection of solder paste printing drift before it causes defects at reflow
- Identification of recurring defect patterns tied to specific component suppliers or board batches
- Statistical process control (SPC) dashboards for real-time quality monitoring
- Traceability data linking individual board inspections to incoming material lots
KPO Process Optimizer
KPO takes the data from inspection systems and feeds it back to upstream equipment — specifically the solder paste printer (KPO Printer) and pick-and-place machines (KPO Mounter). This closed-loop feedback allows:
- Automatic offset correction for solder paste printing based on SPI measurement data
- Placement accuracy adjustments based on pre-reflow inspection measurements
- Reduction in process variation without manual engineering intervention
Mexico’s Growing Electronics Manufacturing Role
Ciudad Juárez is home to more than 300 manufacturing plants, many focused on electronics assembly for automotive, medical device, and consumer electronics OEMs. The SMTA event reflects the growing sophistication of Mexico’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem, which is evolving beyond basic assembly toward more advanced capabilities including:
- Fine-pitch BGA and QFN assembly
- Mixed-technology boards (SMT + through-hole)
- Medical device assembly under ISO 13485
- Automotive electronics under IATF 16949
Heriberto Cuevas, Sales Manager at Koh Young America, noted that manufacturers in Juárez are increasingly focused on “throughput, consistency, and solving problems in real-time” rather than simple defect detection.
Relevance for PCB Quality
For PCB manufacturers and designers, the advancement of AI-powered inspection has several practical implications:
Higher defect detection rates mean that PCB fabrication quality issues — such as [solder mask misregistration]/blog/pcb-solder-mask-dam-design-rules-dfm/), copper surface contamination, or pad coplanarity problems — are more likely to be caught during assembly inspection. This increases the quality expectations that PCB fabricators must meet.
Closed-loop process data from SPI and AOI systems can be shared upstream with PCB designers to improve DFM guidelines. For example, if a specific pad geometry consistently shows low solder volume in SPI data, the pad design can be optimized in the next revision.
Traceability requirements are tightening across automotive, medical, and aerospace industries. Inspection data tied to individual boards creates a quality record that supports [IPC Class 3 workmanship standards]/blog/ipc-a-610-class-3-inspection-workmanship-high-reliability/) and regulatory compliance.
The SMTA Juárez Expo & Tech Forum runs from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM on May 21, 2026. Registration is available through the SMTA website.
