EDGE Group and ICAPE Sign MoU for PCB Subsystem Localization in the UAE

UAE defense technology firm EDGE Group and global PCB solutions provider ICAPE Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding at Make it in the Emirates 2026 to explore localized electronic subsystem manufacturing in the UAE, including PCBs, turnkey solutions, and electronic components.

EDGE and ICAPE Group Formalize PCB Supply Chain Partnership at MIITE 2026

The UAE’s EDGE Group, one of the world’s top 25 defense technology companies, and France-headquartered ICAPE Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Make it in the Emirates (MIITE 2026) to pursue joint development and localization of electronic subsystem manufacturing within the United Arab Emirates.

The agreement, announced on May 13, 2026, provides a formal framework for embedding ICAPE Group’s PCB turnkey solutions and electronic components expertise within EDGE Group’s in-country manufacturing operations. The partnership represents a strategic move to establish resilient, localized supply chains for critical electronic subsystems in the Middle East.

Strategic Context: Why PCB Localization Matters for Defense

Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, stated: “We are deliberate about the partnerships we build. ICAPE Group brings recognised global expertise in PCBs, turnkey solutions and electronic components, and this MoU sets out our joint ambition to take that relationship to a new level, with local development and supply as the end goal.”

The announcement reflects a broader trend across defense-oriented nations to reduce dependence on distant supply chains for mission-critical electronic components. PCBs form the physical backbone of virtually every electronic system in modern defense platforms — from radar and communications equipment to autonomous vehicles and precision-guided munitions.

With demand for electronic components, printed circuit boards, and turnkey solutions services across EDGE’s product portfolio projected to increase substantially, establishing a localized and resilient supply chain for critical subsystems has become a strategic priority for the group.

ICAPE Group’s Global PCB Capabilities

ICAPE Group operates as a global intermediary and technology partner connecting electronics OEMs with optimized PCB manufacturing resources. The company’s core services include:

  • PCB sourcing and manufacturing management across a network of vetted factories
  • Turnkey EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) including component sourcing and assembly
  • Technical engineering support for DFM optimization and material selection
  • Supply chain management with multi-region redundancy

Yann Duigou, CEO of ICAPE Group, commented: “I am proud of this agreement with EDGE Group that will pave the way for future potential partnerships across ICAPE Group’s areas of expertise. We are bringing our strong commitment to high quality and high delivery at the service of a leading and fast-growing group.”

Regional Electronics Manufacturing Momentum

The EDGE-ICAPE partnership is part of a broader wave of electronics manufacturing investment in the Middle East and North Africa region:

  • Saudi Arabia has announced multiple semiconductor and electronics manufacturing initiatives under Vision 2030
  • UAE continues to expand its industrial base through initiatives like “Make it in the Emirates” and “Operation 300bn”
  • Regional demand for defense electronics is growing at 8–12% annually as Gulf states modernize military platforms

For PCB manufacturers, this trend signals expanding opportunities in regions that have traditionally imported 100% of their circuit board requirements from Asia and Europe.

What This Means for the Industry

The localization of PCB manufacturing for defense applications imposes specific requirements that differentiate it from commercial production:

  1. Security clearances and data protection for classified designs
  2. ITAR and EAR compliance considerations for technology transfer
  3. IPC Class 3 reliability requirements standard across defense electronics
  4. Traceability from raw materials through finished assemblies
  5. Continuity of supply guarantees with buffer stock requirements

Manufacturers serving defense programs must demonstrate capabilities in controlled impedance, HDI microvia technology, heavy copper construction for power electronics, and flex-rigid assemblies for size-constrained platforms.

AtlasPCB Perspective

At AtlasPCB, we’ve observed increasing inquiry volumes from Middle Eastern defense and aerospace integrators seeking qualified PCB manufacturing partners. The region’s commitment to developing indigenous electronics manufacturing capability creates long-term demand for high-reliability PCB fabrication services, from prototype through production volumes.

Our IPC Class 3 manufacturing capabilities, including [HDI microvia technology]/blog/hdi-microvia-stacked-vs-staggered-reliability/), [controlled impedance stackups]/blog/controlled-impedance-pcb-design-stackup-calculations/), and [military-grade surface finishes]/blog/pcb-surface-finish-osp-enig-immersion-silver-lead-free-assembly/), position us to support the exacting requirements of defense electronics programs across the region.
